Where the bush used to be

Ooooo.... we are now at my favorite conversion!!! It took me thee tough hours to clear away a 3' x 2.5' area! Of course, I was not only clearing the grasses away, but I also dug up a bush that only had a few scraggly sticks out, but a very deep and complex root ball.  I ended up taking about 6" off the top of the bed, just in grass roots and from the removal of the bush.  Speaking in terms of how much work and time went into its preparation, I am probably the most proud of this bed.

This was the first part that I did a few days earlier. A small patch, 12" wide x 2.5' deep.  It was not that hard, just grasses to pull.  Had to take ~6" off the top in roots and fill it in, then I planted Wave Petunias, which you can see in the front, some Tigrida bulbs in the back and Alyssum seeds.

These are the before pics of this area, you can see the stick-ly bush, with black plastic around it that I had put down weeks prior in hopes of killing the grass to make it easier to pull.

Another pic from further back to get a better idea of where this is:

Ok, are you ready to see what it looks like now? :)
Again, the picture quality on these two is not great, but you can see what was cleared out pretty well
Under the white bags on the corner is a bunch of weeds, grasses and dirt that I pulled out, and I laid it there and covered it so that it would kill the grass underneath.  I am planning on turning that patch into another bed, so that the two corner beds are connected by a rounded corner.(taken 7.2.2012)

On the left are the growing petunias and alyssum. I have some poppies from my mom in there behind the petunias, a gorgeous Dahlia, an Echinacea and some grasses from Malikas yard, among other things that I do not know the names of.

The most recent pictures, taken 7.21 and 7.23
